To ROOT or NOT TO ROOT Android – beginers guide to rooting

To root or not to root, yes, that is the question. Don’t know what root is? Check out this post on Rooting-all you need to know about root. While I personally recommend rooting your device the moment you buy it, provided it has been done and tested beore by someone around the globe, let’s not forget that there are two sides of a coin. Sure the very idea of having whole control over your device might lure you into it, but let’s not forget that your phone manufacturer didn’t want to give you these privilidges at the first place for your own safety. Keeping that in mind, let’s being with the advantages of rooting first.

Advantages of Rooting:

1.Truely own your device

Truely in its true sense, rooting unlocks your device to its full potential. Don’t like this app? Trash it! Don’t want that app, but it came with the phone, so what trash that too!! ๐Ÿ˜€ It is possible to remove the preloaded apps with root access. You can even install apps that are incompatible for your device, change app permissions (at your own risk of course! :P)

2.Speed up your device

No rocket science here, your device runs on a processor. With root access, you can control the speed of your processor, tune it to the max, or even overclock it! More processing speed means faster phone, but be careful it can also mean an overheated, battery-sucking vampire! ๐Ÿ˜›

3.Make your device last longer

We all loved the good old Nokia phones for one unbeatable thing: charge it and forget it! Its a shame that today, if a smart phone lasts a day of nominal usage, its considered pretty decent! Shut up! ๐Ÿ˜› While there’s no denying that the battery demands of your smatphone has increased manifold from the reign of Nokia, but still, battery life hasn’t been the prime concern of the manufacturers or even the users.

Luckily for you, with root access, you can manage your phone’s resources for an optimal battery life.

A personal favourite. Ever felt your phone needs more space for more apps? Woke up in the morning only to realise that you just can’t receive any more messages? Love your phone but curse it for the low memory? Okay enough of the drama! ๐Ÿ˜›

Rooting your phone lets you dedicate a part of your memory card to serve as your phone’s internal memory.

Disadvantages of Rooting:

1. No warranty!!

Yes its true, you’ll void your device’s warranty(That’s true for a majority of manufacturers). ร‚ย The manufacturer will turn his back away when you contact him for support. But there’s again a work around available, Using the SuperSU app, you can temporarily or permanently.

If you wanna unroot your phone, read this post How to Unroot My phone.

2.Rooting involves the risk of “bricking” your phone

Inร‚ย essence, a “bricked” phone is no better than carrying around a brick in your pocket. The phone is dead when it has been “bricked.”

3.Poor performance

Though the intention of “rooting” a phone is to give the phone more performance, several users have found that, in their attempts to speed up the phone or add additional features, that their phones lost both performance speed and features. Remember that when you “root” your Android phone, you are making changes to the stock operating system.
